FUNCTIONAL AND SPACE PROGRAM DESIGN
Upon completion of a master site and facility plan,
Partners is able to provide detailed functional and space program design
that is ultimately used by architects to design hospital facilities. The
Program is a narrative description of the major functions, operating
concepts, and staffing, space, and design needs for each department or
area within the new facility. The narrative includes a thorough
description of services provided, workload analyses, and important
inter- and intra-departmental requirements and adjacencies.
The key elements of the program include:
-
Description of department/function - We describe
the key functions or services to be provided by each
department/function. It is these functions that impact the facility
requirements of the department.
-
Current and projected service volumes and/or
staffing - We analyze historical volume trends and project future
volumes. These volumes are translated into modalities (i.e.,
operating rooms), which impact the appropriate "sizing" of each
department/function. In other words, we translate projections and
volumes into
space requirements.
-
We
identify staff requirements and translate full-time employees (FTEs)
into required workspace.
-
Major operational concepts - We describe key
factors for consideration that impact design. These are based on
vision and guiding principles developed from the strategic planning
effort as well as ideal patient and family experience expectations,
the prevailing patient care model, resource sharing, and other optimal
operational concepts. Key logistical processes and patient flow
concepts, as needed, are described as well.
-
We
identify and inventory each departmental room element by number and size (square
feet), and determine the total space required to hold the key elements
identified.
